Edits and Proofs

So, June has come and gone. I have been waiting so much for the month to come that it just flew by me. If you remember, I went to Disney World as a graduation present to myself. I LOVED it. I’m a big kid, so I had a lot of fun. I would go back in a heartbeat–if I had the money. It was nice to be able to relax and just be a kid again for a little bit.

I also got His Haven‘s edits back from my editor. She said that the story was so well-written, there weren’t even many things to fix! I was shocked. I was expecting red marks all over! I was even more shocked when I went to start the edits and found that she was absolutely right. I finished editing eighteen chapters out of twenty-one in just one night! I also made a friend in my editor. She writes Victorian and paranormal romance too, so I found out we had a lot in common there. Now, His Haven goes to proofs. I get to see different versions of the finished copy and approve them as we go. I still haven’t heard from my cover artist. That is the next big thing I’m excited about. I can’t wait to see what she has created for me!

As for writing, I have been working on my shape-shifter novella The Hunt more than His Haven‘s sequel. I know I should be concentrating on that series since I have been contracted for three years with the publisher for that series, but my muse has been pushing for something different. My comfort zone is long novels (usually 60k-120k words) with a Victorian or vampire influence. So, with The Hunt, I am trying a novella (about 15k-35k words), and I am writing about giant cat shape-shifters and their origins. No Victorian era. No vampires. Shorter story. I’m not even a cat-person! It is very, very different, but I like challenging myself. I’ve been writing Patterns in the Ivy (His Haven‘s sequel) a little at a time. I have a hard time with starting novels. I especially hate writing running scenes, which this story starts with. You can see why my muse is shying away from this one.

As always, like my Facebook page for updates! I’m on there a lot more than I am on here.
