Today I am featuring a good friend of mine from across the pond and her contemporary romance, Love in Her Dreams! She is even going to share a brand new, never shared before, excerpt here just for you all! I also read Love in Her Dreams recently and will be sharing my thoughts at the end of the post.

Love in Her Dreams

Alec and TamIsobelle-Coversyn know they are meant to be together though they have never met. And yet their passion for each other consumes them when they dream.

Alec knows that Tamsyn is the woman for him, but finding her at the moment is an impossibility. Or is it?

After resigning from her job, Tamsyn takes a break in Scotland when she feels the presence of the man who haunts her dreams.  He is tangibly near and in Edinburgh. The sex they have in her sleeping moments becomes more real.  But how can she find him in the streets of Edinburgh when the only thing she remembers is his touch, his scent, his passion?

Tamsyn entered Starbucks again. It was the place she felt the tingling sensation the strongest and she hoped that somehow staying in the coffee shop would help her find him.

She queued awaiting her turn when she almost doubled over. The tingling sensation slammed against her sex, making her wet. The barista at the till was the same barista who took her order yesterday and he was looking at her oddly.

“Are you okay?” he asked.

How could she tell him she was about to have an orgasm in the middle of Starbucks? That would give her a free ride to the closest asylum or court for charges of indecency.

“Yes, I’m fine,” Tamsyn said, her voice trembling a bit. She gave him the briefest of smiles. “I’ll just wait for my drink over there.” She pointed to the end of the counter where a few tourists were waiting for their orders, unmindful of what came over her.

The strength of the tingling overwhelmed her. The possibility that he was here and so close heated the blood in her veins. Goosebumps appeared on her upper arms. The caress of the air on her neck almost made her moan. Her mound quivered as her clit throbbed.

But where was he?

The door to Starbucks opened. More people were coming in to get their morning dose of caffeine.

“Tall iced decaff latte for Tamsyn!”

“Thanks,” she said. Her voice sounded strangled. She cleared her throat and thanked the barista again. Her heart still kept beating at a fast pace. And she hadn’t even drank from her latte.

She found an empty table by the window and sat down. The tingling was more forceful now. Like invisible hands caressing her. Tamsyn looked out of the window and closed her eyes when she felt her nipples beading. She opened her eyes again as she scanned the faces of the men that walked by. No one remotely resembled him. She inhaled deeply before she buried her face in her hands.

Squeezing her eyes shut, she willed her tears not to fall and forced lump in her throat to subside. If he wasn’t real she needed to get him out of her mind. For the sake of her sanity. Probably it was time to let go of the dream. He was probably the love meant for her but she could never have. Someone she could not physically be with to share her life, her passions, and her dreams.

It was that kind of love that never died even though it was never meant to be.

The sensation was very, very strong now. It held her spellbound and cocooned her desperation in a sea of longing. Slowly the tears finally fell. Tamsyn vaguely heard the scrape of the chair beside her being pulled, but she didn’t take her face out of her hands. Damn, she wasn’t even sure if she had any tissue in her purse and she hadn’t taken some napkins from the counter. She didn’t want to let people see her crying.

Tamsyn felt heat emanating from someone beside her.

Someone very close beside her.

Christ! She didn’t need this. She needed to be alone. She couldn’t have someone’s body heat beside her. It would only make her think of him and make matters worse. But the body heat did not move, and with it the tingling peaked.

Then it hit her. Tamsyn stiffened, her breath coming out of her in a whoosh. Could it be? Her heart galloped as though wanting to bolt out of her ribcage. She could feel her heartbeat in her ears. She began to breathe heavily. She removed her hands from her face, her eyes still closed. The cool air started to dry the trail of tears on her face. She turned her head to the heat source, anticipation putting a slight frown on her forehead.

Tamsyn opened her eyes.

His blue-black eyes crinkled at the corners the way they did when they were together. His smile dazzled her. His thumb brushed away the wetness from her face before he leaned toward her.

It was him.

She couldn’t believe it, but he was here. In front of her. He took her mouth in his and she closed her eyes savoring him. His kiss was just as how she knew it would be and more. Then he lifted his head. Tamsyn didn’t give a damn about the stares they were getting. New tears threatened to fall down her cheeks, but she successfully held them in check. She smiled. His eyes mirrored her happiness. They had finally found each other.

“Hey, you,” Tamsyn said, her mouth curving to a smile, her voice husky.

“Hey, Tamsyn.” His lopsided grin turned her into jelly. Oh, God, his deep voice thrummed awareness through her entire body.

“You know my name?”

“I came in just as the barista called your name,” he said inclining his head towards the bar.

“Oh, God, you’re a Scot!”

“I didn’t realize God had taken citizenship, but aye, I’m a Scot.” His shoulders shook slightly with mirth.

Tamsyn almost laughed hysterically. She so loved the way he spoke.

“I don’t know yours. We could never always get to that part.”

He arched his brow in amusement. “I wonder why,” he said, his voice deep and sensual.

Tamsyn felt her body respond to him. She bent her head over her arms folded on the table.

She had to take control of her desire but it was difficult with him beside her.

“It’s Alec,” he said softly in her ear, causing a shiver to traverse her spine and spike in her womb. The low timbre of his voice was the sound that held the puppet strings to her body. She bit down on her lower lip hard. Her moan turned to a hum that expressed the delight coming out of her. He leaned closer to lick the sensitive spot behind her ear before he whispered, “It’s the only name you will know from now on.”

Tamsyn looked up, unable to stop the desire burning in her eyes. She heard his low growl. She encircled her arms around his neck and as he held her close. As though he would never let her go.

“I don’t doubt that,” Tamsyn said cupping his face and gave him a kiss that promised him a lot more. “So now that we’ve finally seen each other, what do we do now?”

“Time to make it real,” he said. He stood up slowly before he held out his hand to her.

“Your place or mine?” She cocked her head to one side, her eyes lighting up mischievously.

“Why not both?” He grinned.

Tamsyn laughed as they left the cafe, her latte forgotten.

Isobelle is intrigued by forces that simmer beneath the surface of these cultures, the hidden passions, unsaid desires, and yearnings unfulfilled.

Interested To Know More About Love in Her Dreams? My Review:

stars 4/5 stars

Tamsyn is having some seriously sexy dreams. For a while, a hunky, unknown man has been invading her sleep and leaving her feeling sexually satisfied yet empty inside. Tamsyn doesn’t know if this mystery man is real, but when an opportunity comes for her to leave her job and take a vacation, she is drawn to the tourist-area of Scotland. The pull of her dream-man (did I mention he is Scottish?), Alec, is even greater when there. The love between these two is so strong is can overcome distance, reality, and the subconscious.

Love in Her Dreams by Isobelle Cate is a short, quick read FULL of steamy love scenes. Talk about wet dreams! This novella is hot. And the sex goes on and on! I loved the characters names—Alec and Tamsyn. Very unique. What I loved the most about this story is the dreamlike atmosphere Cate creates with her writing. We know as much about these characters as they know about each other, and even though I think Cate had the makings of a possible 100k novel here, the shortness and easy-to-read style took over me like a dream. I was left wanting more and asking questions. A sexy Scot named Alec? Where can I get one of those? I’ll even take him in dreams!

For my critique—besides my desire for more—I only have two things. Cate’s writing style is so different, refreshingly so, that when I stumbled across a repeating word or phrase, I was thrown a bit off. For example, the word/phrase “cream” and “cream-colored” was used a bit. And the laird cocked his brow multiple times during his small part, but I chalk that up to a writer being engulfed in her craft. Also, readers are never given a time-span of how long Tamsyn and Alec are having these dreams, but it is hinted that it’s been happening for a while. If so, why don’t they tell each other their names? They must have wondered who this other person was, even if he/she was imaginary. I don’t think adding them knowing names would have taken from the story either. It could be that Tamsyn and Alec are so convinced that the other person isn’t real that there is no need for names. Then, I would have liked to see that mentioned somewhere. Hmm… I wanted just a little more explanation there. That is the only reason I knocked off a star. Otherwise, Love in Her Dreams was a fun (blushingly hot) read! I wish I had the cojones to write something so steamy! I recommend reading this novella while in bed. Who knows. Maybe Alec will join you!
