Paranormal Romance Blog Hop
WELCOME TO MY BLOG!
I’m all about paranormal romances. And for this hop, you’re all in for a real treat. I’m sharing an unedited, never-before-read excerpt of my WIP–the second book in the Redemption Series, Patterns in the Ivy!
Oh, and I’m having a giveaway!
Patterns in the Ivy (The Redemption Series: Book Two) Excerpt:
Stoic and haunted French aristocrat, Lysander Douay, has been running from his past for centuries. But when a young maid, Emma, puts all of her faith in him to bring her home, he must go back to France and confront the truth that has been plaguing him for all these years. This is Lysander Douay and Mae Beckett’s story. Enjoy!
“This was my home,” Lysander whispered, his eyes fixed on the great stone building in front of them. Nothing about him moved besides his lips. “It’s been more than two hundred years.”
Mae’s horse, Juliet, stomped his foot. She looked across the way but saw only the broken windows, crumpled chimneys, and ivy covered walls of an abandoned home. Lysander, though, seemed to see much more. His entire frame shook with the power of it on the horse beside her.
“Lysander.” She reached out to him, but before her fingers could touch the fabric of his jacket, he kicked the belly of his horse. The animal whinnied in surprise and galloped away with Lysander holding firmly to the reigns.
Mae looked at Graham, who was about to get on his own horse to follow him.
“No,” she said. “I’ll get him. You stay here with Emma.”
He nodded and stepped down, inching closer to the young human maid.
Mae rode off in the direction Lysander had went. She ducked her head low, snapped the reigns, and kicked the horse’s side. Juliet picked up speed, and Mae could see Lysander not too far away. She jumped a small creek and followed him up a steep hill. He disappeared over the crest.
“Lysander!”
When she reached the top, he was stopped there, staring straight ahead again. This time there was pain etched into his fine porcelain features. Mae followed his gaze. There were more steep hills in the distance, some tall enough to touch the rising crescent moon and brilliant stars. But it wasn’t the hills that drew in his attention. It was what the massive knolls concealed. In the valley below, the ruins of stone castle stood.
Frozen in time, the walls were charred black by fire, the stain glass broken. There was a sad beauty about the scene with the snow invading the castle’s interior. It took her breath away, and she didn’t know why.
“What is this place?” she asked him, voice shaking.
Lysander’s shoulders fell. His voice barley sounded like his own. “This was my real home,” he said.
“What do you mean?”
“Les Portes.”
Mae remained silent. Even though she didn’t understand French, the words caused an icy chill to crawl up her spine.
“The Gates. It was a prison…a prison that I governed.” Lysander turned his haunting gray eyes to her, and her heart twisted in her chest.
“Are you sure you want to know the truth about me, Mae?” he whispered. “To know why I deserve every ragged marking and scar on my arm?”
