It’s getting hot! And that means the beach, vacations, and reading outside in the gorgeous sunshine! I love this time of year–the smell of sunscreen, getting tan, BBQs, and outdoor fun! Ah! It was a long winter, but summer’s finally here!
So this hop is all about vacations. I don’t go one many (I work too much), so unfortunately, I don’t have pictures to share. BUT I do have a funny story to go with the one vacation I went on, and to this day, my favorite trip. Want to hear it?
I was in eighth grade (Yes–it was that long ago), and my family went to Puerto Rico for the first time. My best friend at the time went with her parents, too, so we met up many times and spent time together. We went parasailing, zip-lining, shopping, rode horses, snorkeling–the works. I had a blast. Well, one day, at our resort, they were having a sandcastle competition on the beach. My friend and I participated and lost, but in the process, I got sun poisoning on my back! My entire back was one huge blister. It was so bad, I pretty much swam in aloe. In Puerto Rico, there isn’t much humidity, so you don’t feel the heat. I had no idea I was burning until it was done.
Oh, and that’s not the end. It gets better. My parents were tired of spanish food one evening and decided to get good ol’ American KFC. You guessed it! I got food poisoning. ONLY ME. No one in my family got sick. So sun poisoning and food poisoning. I was throwing up and peeling skin off my back like a snake. For two weeks. But believe me when I say, to this day, it was the BEST VACATION I’VE EVER BEEN ON. Sun poisoning and food poisoning couldn’t ruin all the fun I had. I’ll never forget it, that’s for sure.
To kick off this summer and this hop, I’ll be giving away a HIS HAVEN T-shirt, handmade key-chain, and book swag to one liker on my FB page!

If you are looking for a book to read during one of your summer trips, check out my paranormal/historical romance, HIS HAVEN (The Redemption Series: Book One).
Handsome and diligent Avrum Brenin should have died in the fire with his mother and older brother. Instead, he is saved by the powerful and wealthy immortal, Lord Henri. Placed under his care, Avrum shares in his world of endless splendors. He must do one thing in return: look after Haven, a human and Lord Henri’s newest rescue.
The simple task proves to be more complicated than it seems. Haven is disobedient, ungrateful, and hostile, yet she is beautiful and mystifying at the same time. One night, when Avrum stumbles across Haven barely clothed and bound at the wrists, the world he has trusted in unravels before his eyes. He soon discovers that no one—from Lord Henri and Haven to his closest friend, Lysander—are who they seem to be.
Now faced with the truth, will Avrum choose to surrender to the man who rescued him, or will he have the courage to save the woman who captivated him?
I took one of my sons to Puerto Rico and we had a blast! We drove around the whole island and up through the coffee farms. We stumbled onto a festival in Ponce and visited the little rainforest. El Morro was a very cool fort too!
I swear I burned every single summer I ever went to the beach. It’s so beautiful and fun at the seashore, and just like you said, you really don’t feel it when you’re getting burned. Sorry about the food poisoning — ugh! — but the trip sounds like a ton of fun anyway. Congrats on the HIS HAVEN novel, and thanks for joining the hop! 🙂

Oh no… sounds like a holiday out of hell… poor thing. Sunburn is the worst… well probably worse after you also got food poisoning.
Ouch and ouch! Awful! 🙁 I avoid sunbathing and wear high SPF – I get heat exhaustion and it isn’t pleasant either. 🙂

My goodness! Glad you survived.
I already like your page – so no number. I have to avoid the sun, the meds I take make me burn even with sunscreen
Sun poisoning and food poisoning? Not fun! But glad you still enjoyed the beach.

It must have been good to make both sunburn and food poisoning pale in comparison.

Yarg! Sounds like you were lucky to get out alive. Yet the good things still outweighed the bad. Must have been the vacation of a lifetime!
